The Area Health Education Centers Program, known as AHEC, was developed by Congress in 1971 to recruit, train and retain a health professions workforce committed to under-served populations.
The West Virginia AHEC Program helps to bridge the gap between academic medicine and local community health needs by addressing rural health disparities and encouraging cooperation between rural communities and health care professionals.
